Session Transcript
Welcome back to another session of Guidestone University.
In this session, we’re looking at Basis. So, we looked at Future and then we looked at Purpose and now we’re going to look at Basis. Now this area is optional. I always encourage it because all of us have some reason why each one of our Simple Personal Plan Accounts are part of our Simple Personal Plan.
Usually it’s one or two things, and again, this is optional. Some of these things may or may not be your style and so you can use it and tweak it, however it makes sense for you. So, generally, Basis is a universal principle or for those that faith is a part of your life, then it’s a faith principle that forms the basis for why this area, this account is part of your Simple Personal Plan. So, you can choose a universal principle or you can choose a verse or something from ancient scriptures, something that identifies and provides foundation for why this area is a part of your Simple Personal Plan.
So, to give you an idea of how this can work for one of your Personal Plan Accounts. For my wife account, for Sarah, I used an ancient scripture, Proverbs 5:18, as the basis for my account for her. And it reads, “Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you: rejoice with the wife of your youth.” And so, I hope that no matter how young I am, or how old I am, that that will always be true of our relationship. That will always be the foundation for our relationship.
The purpose of our relationship was so that I could help her accomplish her dreams, and so that we could experience the adventure of life together – I’m paraphrasing there. And so, my goal was to find some basis, again, whether universal principle or whether phrase from ancient scriptures, that will help remind me why this is exciting and compelling for me.
I liked her that’s why I married her. I’ve also come to the point of my life where I have decided that if it is not fun, I’m not doing it. And if it is not compelling, I’m not doing it.
And so, I want to put things in my Simple Personal Plan that excite me, that energize me, and encourage me as I come back and review them on a regular basis.
So, here’s our action steps. Number one, is to write out your basis. Again, ancient scriptures or universal principle, whatever works best for you write out your basis.
And then number two, again, post it in the Guidestone University Leader Community in Facebook, and then we’ll provide some feedback and encouragement support there along the way. And we’ll see you in the next session.[/text_block]
